Adia J. Palmer Memorial Scholarship

Adia J. Palmer Memorial Scholarship Information and Application

The University of Detroit Mercy community lost a dear friend and engaging student in Adia Palmer, who passed away unexpectedly in March 2022.

Remembered as “a light at the University” by her classmates, Adia was heavily involved at Detroit Mercy, including as a communications major, library student assistant, poet, Varsity News writer and photographer, TENN volunteer, warrior for food justice and most importantly, a true friend.

To honor Adia’s legacy of creativity, inspiration and elevation, as well as her desire to spread joy, peace and love to make the world a better place, the Detroit Mercy Libraries has established the Adia J. Palmer Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship(s) will be awarded annually in December to a returning library student assistant, Varsity News writer or photographer, or TENN volunteer. Communications studies and theatre students may also be considered.

Student recipient criteria:

  • Scholarships are awarded to students with financial need;
  • Scholarships are to be used ONLY for books and fees;
  • Awarded to students who have been actively involved for at least one year, and intend to continue this relationship, as a Library Assistant, Varsity News staff, or Volunteer for the Titan Equity Nourish Network (TENN);
