The terms hybrid flexible, flexible hybrid, HyFlex, hyflex, and BlendFlex are used in practice and literature. HyFlex is a specific model created by Brian J. Beatty at San Francisco State University. Here at Detroit Mercy, we are preferring the term hyflex (no caps, except when grammatically necessary) to encompass all hybrid flexible teaching methods and allow for faculty autonomy.
