The study of LGBTQ+ issues extends to multiple branches of knowledge. At times this may create challenges for researchers looking for books in the library's collection.
If you are interested in browsing the library stacks for titles related to LGBTQ+ issues or topics, one place to start may be the HQ1-HQ79 call number range on the lower level of the McNichols Campus Library. However, books related to LGBTQ+ topics may be found throughout the collection and are definitely not limited to the HQ call number range.
(See the Search the Catalog for a Book box on the right side of this page for tips on how to search the online catalog for something more specific.)
Browsing the collection online is also possible through the library catalog. Once you find a book you are interested in, scroll to the bottom of the catalog record to "Virtual Browse." Virtual Browse is an electronic view of what you can expect to find on the physical shelf next to and around the title you are looking for.
If you have questions about LGBTQ+-related interdisciplinary research, please contact the librarian listed on the Welcome page of this guide or email edesk@udmercy.edu.
For eBooks, visit the Downloading eBooks tutorial for information on how to access the Library's collection of electronic books. Access requires logging in using your Blackboard username and password.
Looking for a book in the Library? Search the Library Catalog for books and eBooks. Enter keywords, authors, titles, subjects or other terms to find what you are looking for. Note that you can also find articles and audio visual materials in the Catalog. To limit your results, select Library Catalog (Excludes Articles) from the drop down menu to the right of the search window.
Consider using the Advanced Search option to limit or expand your search further.
The terms and variations of terms you use to search can make all the difference in determining search results. As a potential starting point, here are a few possible keywords to use in LGBTQ research. In addition to keyword searching, these terms may also be used for subject searches in the catalog. Note that the links below provide results to subject searches for titles in numerous formats (books, articles, etc.).
For more subject search term possibilities, Emory Libraries has an extensive list of LGBTQ+-related Library of Congress subject headings on topics ranging from Art & Architecture to Psychology to Youth & Education.
