We Don't Want Them

Detroit Mercy is hosting the exhibition “We Don’t Want Them: Race and Housing in Metropolitan Detroit, 1900-1968” in the McNichols Campus Library Nov. 6 - the end of the fall 2021 semester.

The exhibit examines the disparities formed in the founding of America’s cities and towns, which were built upon social, economic and government sanctioned racial segregation. Historic documents, photographs and personal stories displayed on freestanding display units and panels will help exhibit viewers understand the insidious effects of residential separation, and how inequitable societal structures were constructed to cause deep harm to communities for generations.

Since 2010, “We Don’t Want Them” has been shown throughout metro Detroit, reaching hundreds of thousands of people through libraries, schools, colleges, places of worship and business organizations.
