MLK Day and National Day of Healing from Racism

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, a federal holiday, recognizes the birthday of Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr and is marked annually  - since 1983 - on the third Monday in January. This year (2023), MLK Day takes place Jan. 16. 

The 7th Annual Day of Racial Healing takes place Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023. It is celebrated annually on the Tuesday after MLK Day. 

This guide serves as an introduction to and source of information on these celebrations as well as the people and events that inspired them.
