Detroit Mercy Programs

African American Studies (Minor) at Detroit Mercy
A multidisciplinary minor that promotes the understanding of the African-American experience through scholarship, service learning and cultural events. Students who earn a minor in African American Studies have a richer understanding of African and African-American culture and a keener appreciation of the relationship between race, diversity and society.
Islamic Studies (Minor) at Detroit Mercy
The Islamic Studies minor is designed to be both multicultural and interdisciplinary, and critically examines the place of Islam and Muslims in society locally, nationally and globally. Students of Islamic Studies will become familiar with major historical events and figures, cultural processes, patterns, ideas and values that have shaped Muslim traditions and Islamic cultural and intellectual contributions.
Women's and Gender Studies (Minor) at Detroit Mercy
University of Detroit Mercy's Women's and Gender Studies (WGS) Program is a diversity and social-justice-focused area of study that examines how our beliefs about gender and sexuality shape our personal identities and the world we live in. The program also examines how gender and sexuality intersect with other facets of our identities such as race, class, nationality, ability and age.
