Graduate Standards and Enrollment Management Committee

The Graduate Standards and Enrollment Management Committee addresses graduate student recruitment strategies, graduate student retention strategies, makes recommendations concerning ways to make the University a welcoming and supportive place for graduate students and faculty and staff development initiatives to contribute to retention. This Committee reviews proposals for new graduate certificates and parameters for what should be included in graduate course syllabi. 

Graduate Standards and Enrollment Management Committee Structure

The seven-member MFA Committee includes:

  • four elected representatives of the McNichols campus faculty from departments with graduate programs.
  • one faculty member from a graduate program selected by the MFA from among its members.
  • two non-voting administrative representatives, one from the Office of the Registrar and one from the Office of Admissions.

Graduate Standards and Enrollment Committee Charges 2018-2019

  • Visit Detroit Mercy graduate program webpages to create a list of best practices or recommendations for all programs to consider incorporating.
  • Survey Detroit Mercy faculty to identify topics of interest for Colleague Development Day or other cross disciplinary events targeted at development.
  • Identify an efficient method to gather feedback from graduate students to determine their needs or recommendations in order to create a supportive environment and educational experience, e.g. a graduate survey or focus group.
  • Create a list of resources on campus for graduate students, with a short description for each resource that could be shared with graduate programs to include within handbooks or other materials distributed to graduate students or included on graduate program websites, e.g. wellness center, food pantry, university ministry, fitness center etc.
  • Identify representative/liaison from the Graduate Standards and Enrollment Management Committee to participate in the Graduate Coordinators group to be convened by the Provost/VPAA per Shared Governance guidelines.
  • Meet with the Provost/VPAA to discuss the charges for 2018/2019
  • Meet jointly at least once per academic year with representatives of the Undergraduate Standards and Enrollment Management Committee to discuss possible areas of common concern and potential synergies
  • Review the Committee’s Policies and Procedures bringing them into alignment with the 2017 approved governance modification structure, including incorporating the appropriate Communication Structure and Rights and Responsibilities as outlined in the approved structure modification final proposal.  Submit by January 15, 2019 the proposed revision to the Shared Governance Task Force for confirmation that the revision conforms to the approved structure.
